2. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files that websites and applications install on the user’s device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when the user visits or uses the relevant services. Cookies allow the Platform to recognise the user’s device over time and are used, among other things, to remember the user’s preferences, maintain the login session, ensure the security of the service and understand how the Platform is used.
In this notice, the term “cookie” is used broadly and also includes similar technologies such as local storage, SDKs, mobile advertising identifiers and tracking pixels, where used by the Platform or its providers.
Session cookies : are automatically deleted when the browser or app is closed.
Persistent cookies : remain stored on the user’s device for a predefined period, or until manually deleted, and are reactivated each time the user visits the Platform again.
3. Why ArticHall uses cookies
ArticHall uses first-party cookies and, to a limited extent, third-party cookies for the following purposes:
- to enable secure access to the user profile and the use of editorial content, subscriptions and purchases made on the Platform;
- to ensure the security of the Platform, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect the accounts of verified authors and readers;
- to process payments made on the Website for profile subscriptions, subscriptions to collections (“compilations”) and purchases of individual content items (payments made in the App go through the in-app payment systems of Apple and Google, which are governed by their own policies);
- to remember the user’s preferences, such as language, display settings and the status of the cookie banner;
- to analyse the use of the Platform in aggregate form in order to improve its features and performance.
ArticHall does not currently use profiling cookies for third-party advertising purposes, nor does it sell data collected through cookies to third parties. Should such processing be introduced in the future, this Cookie Policy will be updated and, where required by applicable law, the user’s prior consent will be obtained.
4. Types of cookies used
4.1 Strictly necessary technical cookies
These are cookies that are essential for the operation of the Platform and for the provision of the services requested by the user, such as authentication, session management and transaction security. Without these cookies, certain essential features of the Platform (for example, access to the profile or the completion of a purchase) would not be available. Under the applicable legislation, these cookies do not require the user’s prior consent.
4.2 Functional cookies
These cookies make it possible to remember choices made by the user (for example, the interface language or content display preferences) in order to offer a more personalised experience. Without these cookies, some services may remain available but be less personalised.
4.3 Analytics cookies
These cookies collect information, in aggregate and, where possible, pseudonymised form, on how the Platform is used (for example, the most visited pages and content), enabling ArticHall to understand user behaviour and improve its services. Where such cookies cannot be classified as strictly necessary under the Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali), their use is subject to the user’s consent.
4.4 Third-party cookies
Certain features of the Platform rely on third-party providers, which may install their own cookies on the user’s device for the purposes described in their respective notices. In particular, on the Website ArticHall relies on Stripe , as payment service provider, for the secure processing of transactions relating to subscriptions and purchases, and on Cloudflare for security, performance and content delivery, which may set technical cookies strictly necessary for these purposes. Payments made in the App through the Apple App Store and Google Play are governed by the notices of the respective providers. ArticHall has no direct control over such third-party cookies and invites users to consult the privacy and cookie notices of the respective providers for further details.
5. Summary table of cookies

6. Legal basis and consent
Processing of data carried out through strictly necessary technical cookies is based on the need to provide the service requested by the user (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) or, for cookies serving security and fraud-prevention purposes, on ArticHall’s legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and does not require consent, pursuant to Article 122 of the Italian Personal Data Protection Code (Legislative Decree No. 196/2003, as amended) and the related Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority.
For functional and analytics cookies that cannot be classified as strictly necessary, processing is based on the user’s freely given, specific and informed consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), collected through the dedicated banner displayed on first access to the Platform. Users may withdraw their consent at any time, as described in section 7.
Where analytics cookies are limited to aggregate and anonymous statistics and, under the Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority, may be treated as technical cookies, processing is based on ArticHall’s legitimate interest in improving the Platform (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), as indicated in the Privacy Policy.
7. How to manage cookie preferences
Users may manage their preferences regarding non-essential cookies at any time:
- through the cookie banner displayed on first access to the Platform, which allows users to accept, reject or customise the categories of non-necessary cookies;
- through the account settings, where a dedicated privacy section is available, and through the cookie preferences panel, which can be reopened at any time from the Website without the need for an account;
- through the settings of their browser or device, which allow cookies already installed to be blocked or deleted.
Please note that disabling strictly necessary technical cookies may impair the proper functioning of the Platform, including access to the user profile and the completion of subscriptions or purchases.
8. Browser and device settings
Most browsers allow users to view, manage and delete cookies through the “Tools”, “Preferences” or “Privacy settings” options. Similarly, mobile operating systems (iOS, Android) offer tools to limit advertising tracking and reset the device’s advertising identifiers. For detailed information, please refer to the official documentation of the browser or operating system manufacturer.
9. Data transfers
Certain third-party providers that install cookies on the Platform (for example, Stripe and Cloudflare) may be established outside the European Economic Area. In such cases, ArticHall ensures that the transfer of data takes place in compliance with the safeguards provided for in Chapter V of the GDPR, such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the provider’s adherence to recognised adequacy frameworks.
10. Changes to this Cookie Policy
ArticHall reserves the right to update this Cookie Policy periodically, including to adapt it to regulatory changes or to new features of the Platform. Material changes will be communicated to users by notice on the Platform or by other suitable means. Users are invited to consult this page periodically in order to be informed of any updates.
